One of the things I do during my reading assembly programs is really convey to the students that reading strengthens your brain in the same way that muscles in your arms and legs are strengthened by physical activity.

The students will be involved in my assemblies in fun ways that help illustrate the points I make, and in fact the entire audience is involved, even during the fun recap that I do at the end, serving to illustrate to the faculty watching that the kids did in fact absorb what I communicated to them.
An important point I need to stress: If your school is composed of not only elementary or middle school students but rather a combination of both, as with a K-8 school, I offer different versions of each assembly topic because developmentally, a kindergarten-level child sees and comprehends things differently than a fifth grader, and even more so for middle school students.
